UNCTAD has been proactive in shaping the international approach to creative industries and the creative economy, emphasizing their development dimension.
The report aims to facilitate a better understanding of the key issues underlying the emerging creative economy. It will be the first multi-agency study to present the United Nations perspective of this topic in a joint endeavour to enhance policy coherence and international action in this area, with contributions from:
- UNCTAD
- United Nations Development Programme
- United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
- World Intellectual Property Organization
- International Trade Centre
The Creative Economy Report, is an initiative of the Partnership UNCTAD/UNDP - Special Unit for South-South Cooperation.
This policy-oriented study analyzes the interface between culture, economics and technology. The report addresses the challenging of assessing the creative economy towards informed policy-making. It features pioneering trade analysis presenting an statistical assessment of creative industries world-wide. Issues related to intellectual property rights, enterprises, national policies and multilateral processes are also examined. The report explores how developing countries can enhance their creative economy for trade and development gains.
