- How the new global economic realities affect UNCTAD's development role, and how UNCTAD can strengthen that role at the global and national levels.
- How the three pillars of UNCTAD's work - research and analysis, intergovernmental consensus-building, and technical cooperation - can build upon one another in order to enhance UNCTAD's impact at the country level while also enhancing the role of the United Nations more generally.
Purpose:
To provide a setting for informal reflections in advance of the round tables on conference subtheme 4, "Strengthening UNCTAD: enhancing its development role, impact and institutional effectiveness".
Expected outcome/deliverables:
Opportunity for participants to hear what a high-level keynote speaker and former member of the UNCTAD Secretary-General's Panel of Eminent Persons has to say about how UNCTAD can deliver on its development role.
