| The conference is a pre-event of the twelfth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XII), which will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 20 to 25 April 2008. |
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Energy Planning Agency of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil are jointly organizing a conference on "Biofuels: An option for a less carbon-intensive economy", which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 4 to 5 December 2007.
It will discuss the following main topics:
- Climate change as a development challenge

- Overview of the global biofuels market

- Relevant trade and sustainable development aspects of the biofuels market

- Recommendations for UNCTAD XII
Participation
The conference should be of particular interest to government officials and representatives of the private sector dealing with the energy, technology, agriculture and trade sectors.
